Refrigerant R22 – termination schedule
R-22 is currently scheduled to be reduced, or production will be eliminated in the year 2020. This is three years away! This refrigerant will either be eliminated, or a dramatic tax imposed, or the cost per pound will increase dramatically, making cost of R22 prohibitive.
Many retailers are aware of this phase out requirement, and are planning now. A Unit Replacement should automatically be chosen, over the replacement or repair of a compressor or coil.
Many customers are also scheduling group replacement over the remaining three years, so as to not inherit a major cost in the year 2020. When you have many sites, 25% each year is easier to digest than 100% in a single year, 2020.
Scheduled replacements are normally planned for during the fall through spring months.
